What is Wild Mind Dance?
Liberate yourself through movement. Dance with your whole self…not the dance of performers and acrobats, but the dance deep inside of you, the dance only you can do.
A few years ago, I fell in love with the dance. I danced Gabrielle Roth's 5Rhythms practice every week and loved it - I still do. I loved the way I could move big feelings and find new openings. I loved the way I could come to know who I was and how I related to others in ever deeper ways.
I'd been exploring shamanism, therapy, psychology, and other spiritual traditions, and I went looking for ways to deepen my dance and take it to the next level. When I found Dancing Freedom I knew I'd found my practice. Dancing Freedom is a moving journey, a ritual, a ceremony. We come together for two hours to move our deeply felt prayers to rhythm and music. There is no dogma in the dance. You need no skill, talent, or particular philosophical beliefs. You just need a body and a willingness to explore your being in the world.
All pre-modern cultures recognised the power of dance, movement, and rhythm to take us beyond the confines of our ordinary waking consciousness. The Dancing Freedom practice is a moving meditation that utilises the intelligence of our shamanic, somatic, ecstatic and expressive selves. We explore the ways in which we can access the deep wisdom stored in our bodies through conscious movement and ecstatic dance.
Over the years I have incorporated more of my psychotherapeutic training and experience into dance facilitation and now refer to my embodiment work as Wild Mind Dance.
